Cinnamon for Weight Loss: Control Carb & Sugar Cravings
By both decreasing blood lipid levels and increasing insulin sensitivity, cinnamon appears to be a powerful addition to any weight loss program. It controls cravings for both sugar and carbs. You need a fairly high concentration of cinnamon for this purpose, so you’ll need to take it in pill form – 1000mg of Cinnamon daily. Add a chromium supplement to really boost the effects (chromium is a mineral).
Do not expect your weight to fall off just from taking Cinnamon. But it WILL help your metabolism which will lead to better weight loss. I know someone who takes 2000 mg of cinnamon a day in gel caps on a doctors recommendation. The doctor said you can also swallow a tablespoon of powdered cinnamon, best mixed with hot water and drink it as a tea. But the pills are way easier to get down.
Cinnamon contains flavon-3-ol antioxidants which enhance insulin sensitivity. This makes more of your blood glucose enter the cells where it belongs; helping your levels to stabilize which in turn stops inflammation and ends your carbohydrate cravings. . All you need to do is add ½ teaspoon of cinnamon to water or hot tea a day.
When you consume sugar it enters your bloodstream. All this sugar in the bloodstream results in high levels of insulin, the fat storing hormone, being secreted. This is the reason why sugar and other simple carbohydrates in the diet, not fat, is primarily responsible for weight gain, and why cutting right back on sugary foods and other simple carbohydrates is the best way to lose weight.
Watch Sugar – The Bitter Truth by Dr. David Lustig to see why the obesity epidemic in recent decades is largely due to the huge increase in processed sugar and fructose consumption:
This video also explains how high fructose corn syrup affects the liver in a similar way to alcohol, increases fat storage and makes your brain think that you are hungry, even after eating.
When you consume sugar or carbs, it makes you crave even more sugar and carbs, and those cravings last for a full 48 hours following consumption.
The key to breaking this cycle is to stop sugar cravings for long enough that your body’s response to sugar can be reset back to normal. It’s very important to start enjoying complex flavors, rather than needing everything you eat and drink to be sweet like a child tends to.
Eating higher quality foods with more nutrition and a longer digestion time will help minimize sugar cravings for most people. Try to have smaller, more frequent healthy meals every 3 to 4 hours consisting of lean protein and vegetables (ideally green veggies) rather than carbs and processed foods that spike blood sugar levels and create an insulin response.
A good example might be having an omelet or scrambled eggs for breakfast without bread; this marinated garlic, ginger and chili chicken breast with salad for lunch; nuts and seeds or low glycemic, high fiber fruits for a mid-afternoon snack; and a healthy stir fry with protein, coconut oil and lots of mixed vegetables for dinner.

Some people who have used cinnamon to curtail their cravings and lose weight have told me they use it every day, as often as they can, in powdered form. For example by adding it to coffee.
One study I read showed that 1 teaspoon of cinnamon per day was correlated with weight loss.
My preference would still be to take the Cinnamon supplements in pill form, and then if you decide to add additional cinnamon to coffee, consider that a bonus. By popping your supplements its easier to ensure that you are consistently getting the necessary dosage to be effective every day.
